From Henry VII to Elizabeth
The Tudors and the Stuarts1485 to 1714
Henry VII died having secured his family's hold on the throne, and it passed to his son, Henry VIII. From him the throne passed to his young son, Edward VI, who was still only a child when he was crowned king. Edward VI was succeeded by Mary, his older half-sister, and Mary in turn was succeeded by Elizabeth I, four changes of ruler within a fairly short stretch of years, and each new reign brought its own turn in how England was told to worship.
Before that new line of rulers came to the throne, one of the wives who preceded them had her own fate to bear. Catherine of Aragon was divorced, set aside once Henry decided that a new wife might give him the son this marriage had not.
